This book was a great chapter book for students to learn about history and about Davy Crockett's life. I enjoyed this book. One thing that stood out to me in this book was the characters. The characters especially Davy were extremely believable. They were true to the time period and their actions and conversations were accurate for the time period. For example, Davy could not read or write and had no interest to going to the new school because he just wanted to be a hunter when he grew up show more and knew that he would not need the things that he would be learning in school. The point of view was also very well done. The author had it remain first person for the entirety of the book through the eyes of the main character, Davy Crockett. It was all about his life through his eyes which made the book easy to follow and exciting for children to read because he was also a child for the majority of the book so it was relatable. The purpose of this book is to provide a biography that is easy for elementary aged children to read and learn from. show less
I liked this book! First, the illustrations enhanced the text. For example, there was only one illustration for each chapter, but it gave the readers something to look forward to and visualize the story. Second, the language was extremely descriptive, and detailed. For example, the author states, "The dog would circle toward one side and the bear would circle facing him. When he was even with her and threatening to go past..." The main idea of this book is to educate readers about Davy Crockett.
