’ve been a fan of The Sartorialist blog for a long time. So when a companion book was published collecting some of the great photography from the site, I rushed out to buy it – literally was at the bookshop looking for it the day it was released. Why am I a fan? Because you won’t find a lot of super models in Scott Schuman’s book or on his blog. The Sartorialist is less about fashion, more about style.

The photographs are of random (and some familiar) people he sees on the street – show more taken on the spot in a composition style that always reminded me of August Sander. And it says a lot about his work that designers use Schuman’s street photos for inspiration – versus his doing photo shoots with models dressed head to toe in the latest look (though he does some of that too).

And now The Sartorialist, in book form, gives you 512 pages of people looking fabulous without having to turn on your computer.

I could gush about Scott Schuman’s work for hours...

This is 507 pages of fashion love. I learned more about fashion from this book then any other book or magazine I have read about fashion. There are chapters like Rome, and certain sections of NY, but they are really not chapters. 2-3 pages cover the chapter title then the photographer moves on. There are appearances with from the fashion photographer from the NY Times, but the 99% of this book is all about people who go out and go through the day. It was surprising to see that most of the show more photos were of fellow photographers. This book is priced at $30.00. I would pay much more to have this on my shelf. show less
I'm a fan of Scott Schuman's wonderful street fashion photography blog, The Sartorialist, so I was delighted to discover that he has two books as well. Every bit as excellent as his blog; highly recommended.
Offers a collection of images of the men and women who have caught the author 's attention. This book looks with greater breadth at human style, telling diverse stories of its expression around the world. It encompasses the varied taste and visual attitude of people as far afield as Seoul, London, Miami, Paris and beyond.
