This is a fun poetry book that takes on a family road trip across the United States, stopping at 14 historic and meaningful trees. The book is split into sections: a poem related to the history of the tree, an area with facts about the tree, and a map of the route the family took. The illustrations are colorful and warm, and the characters appear thoughtful, making the journey feel personal and relatable. I enjoyed the combination of poetry, history, geography and science pesent in the book.
I really enjoyed this book for several reasons. It’s structured around a road trip across the United States, with stops at various famous trees. Each tree is featured on a page with its own poem, and what stood out to me was the use of a wide variety of poetic forms—many of which are rarely taught in school. This variety made it both educational and refreshing.
Alongside each poem, there’s also a short piece of historical or environmental context about the tree itself, written in prose. show more This blend of poetry and nonfiction makes the book a great introduction to lesser-known poetic styles, while also offering an engaging way to learn about American history and natural landmarks. show less

A delightful book to introduce and reinforce what kindness is and how it shows up between people. The story is told through rhyming text and with a lot of metaphors. In the story, a child wakes up and goes through the day demonstrating where kindness shows up. Such as helping younger children tie shoes, helping a friend, visiting a neighbor, being kind to other people and animals. Some of the metaphors will need an adult to help children relate to such as "Kindness runs like dominoes. Reach show more out and tip a tile." A young child might not understand how that relates to them being kind to others and others spreading kind acts.
The illustrations help to reinforce the text in a wonderful way. There are helpful starter questions at the front and a guide at the end for constructive conversations.
I appreciate it when reviewer copies of children's books come fully bound. This book has a nice feel with thick paper, it will stand up to multiple readings, especially in a classroom or library. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.A sweet story about how a kind act can help so many others. The book uses similes and metaphors to make its point, but it is still your generic preschool/early elementary book about being nice to those around you. What's good about this title is the little extras: a note to caregivers at the start of the book shares some prompts for questions to ask before, during, and after reading and a page spread at the back of the book defines similes and metaphors with examples.
