This is the seventh volume in the Pierre Durand series, and as always, I enjoyed it very much.
Lonely lagoons, old fishing villages and a sinister prophecy... This time, Pierre Durand investigates in the picturesque Camargue.
Fear is spreading in the Camargue. While Pierre Durand is travelling through the Rhône delta in a houseboat, thinking about his professional future, a chain letter is circulating with a prophecy announcing the death of three sinners. Shortly afterwards, a dead man with a show more blackened face is found. He is a detective who had been investigating undercover in the milieu of the ‘gens du voyage’. But there is a witness hiding on board Pierre's houseboat who claims to have lost his memory. The prefect asks the former village policeman for help. With the help of a ‘gitane,’ Pierre tries to get to the bottom of the mystery of the chain letters. Everything points to a conflict between cultures, but another murder sheds new light on the crimes. Pierre realises that he must trust his intuition to prevent the last part of the prophecy from coming true.
During his investigations, everyone at home realises that the mayor is playing a nasty game with him and the former mayor. Can this problem also be solved?

This was the sixth case in the Pierre Durand series and, as always, he deals with cases that do not fall within his remit.
It's the middle of May in Provence. Pierre Durand is enjoying life with Charlotte, but when her childhood friend Anouk turns up, the idyll is over. The rose grower is suspected of murder - her neighbour has been found dead in his ‘archive of fragrances’ and valuable documents are missing. Charlotte is convinced of her friend's innocence. The evidence is anything but show more clear, so Pierre sets off in search of the truth. His investigations take him via Grasse to the Mediterranean, where three weeks earlier a perfumer died under suspicious circumstances. show less
This is the start of a new series for me that takes place in Provence. Just the right thing for summer.
One can call this book a cozy mystery, with a few murders, good food and also romance.
Pierre Durand, a former Parisian commissioner who now works as a simple policeman in a dreamy village in Provence, is called to a wine cellar because a body floats in the wine tank. A recipe (Coque au Vin) is attached to the tank. This comes from the hotel chef as she organizes cooking classes. Maybe she's show more the killer?
Dupin is attracted to the chef and even attends a cooking class with her. Even if he is far from being a born cook.
The secretary of the police station, a former mistress of Dupin, leaves the job overnight because she is moving in with a lawyer who promises her a luxury life.
Further murders were carried out during the investigation, each time the body was draped or murdered in such a way that it fit a menu recipe.
Who is behind the whole thing? Are Dupin's women now in danger?

This is the third volume in the Pierre Durand series and reading it was again a pleasure.
This time Pierre Durand had to find out why a soap maker was killed. Provence is well known for soap production and for the murdered people it was very important that only natural essences and products are used for their soaps. Of course, not everyone agreed that they wanted to sell Provencal soap cheaper, but that meant that many of the soap's ingredients had to be manufactured artificially.
At the same show more time, Durand wanted to prove to himself that he would be suitable as a chief investigator, since this post is to be filled. Not only his girlfriend, but also the residents of the place disagreed with this. They urged themselves to renovate his old farmhouse so that he didn't want to leave.
The many delicacies that accompanied this series again and again make my mouth watery.
I will definitely read the other books of this cozy mystery.
