Love your husband/Love yourself is Jennifer Flanders' exposition of the thesis she has been developing over her 22 years of marriage. It's backed up scripturally and scientifically (although I would perhaps argue that she overrelies on secondary sources; while I acknowldge that this is almost inevitable outside a university environment, some of her sources are notoriously poor). The greatest evidence for her argument, though, is that of her own testimony, living out the life she describes in show more this work. Most tellingly, her eldest child is now also following down what she and her husband describe as 'the path less travelled'.
I can't say that I totally agree with all the reasoning in this book. The science I generally found to be less convincing than her scriptural exegesis, but I most appreciated the wisdom Jennifer has clearly accrued over the years which she lovingly dispenses throughout.
This is a thoughtful but challenging book, especially for a relatively newly-married woman. I really appreciate the opportunity to read Jennifer's book and, while I don't always totally agree with her intellectual or practical conclusions, it is impossible to ignore the spiritual results. show less

Oh My Goodness, girls will LOVE "Moment by Moment" devo journal by Jennifer Flanders! My daughter was ready to steal it the moment it arrived, but I managed to hold her off till I got the review finished.
The first thing I loved was its Victorian style, with its fonts like calligraphy and primer letters and the clip art silhouettes and scenes from mid-1800's, the book makes a girl want to dream. Even the shape of the book is lovely, being wider than other books.
After falling in love with the show more way the book looks, I sat down to read the content. It is a journal, so many pages have writing prompts, Victorian clip art, and lots of space to write (which as a writer, I love)! The opening Introduction is a letter from the author encouraging girls to think about the deeper things in life and focus on God as our comfort. (I think Ms. Flanders and I could be best friends.)
This book is chalk full with Scripture, quotes, hymns/songs, prompts, space to capture all kinds of memories, goals, favorite things, even mini Bible study on worry and service, current events, prayer, an address and birthday records sections, and much more! There are even two pages that have bookmarks that can be photocopied.
Ms. Flanders has three more devo journals coming out soon (one for boys, moms, and wives). I can't wait to get the mom and wife ones! As soon as I got this book, I wanted to buy 20 more to give to all the girls I know at church. It's that fantastic!

My youngest son is getting married in December. I am so excited to be adding another daughter to our family! When I received an offer to review How Do I Love Thee? (A Devotional Journal for Wives) by Jennifer Flanders, I jumped at the chance thinking I could pass it along to my soon to be daughter-in-love. Wow! I am glad I did. This journal is great for any married woman, but I think it is especially good for a new bride. Journaling prompts encourage Scripture study, drawing, writing, show more pasting in mementoes, etc. โ everything a creative woman could desire. Beginning with first dates and courtship, the book progresses through the days of engagement, first year of marriage and beyond. As a woman progresses through her relationship, How Do I Love Thee? offers opportunities for growth both in marriage and spiritually. For example, there are sections focusing on the importance of prayer, cooperation in marriage and looking for blessings. Marriage takes hard work, and this journal takes that into account. This journal is designed to last a life time! For those who are crafty or enjoy the coloring book craze, there is ample space and opportunity to create.
While I think How Do I Love Thee? would make a perfect shower gift for the newly engaged, for those of you who have been married a long time๐, the journal will help you remember your first days of love โ always a good thing!
Highly Recommended.
Audience: married or engaged women.

I received this through LibraryThing and found it an interesting read. Fascinating in some ways -- from the point of view of a non-christian, non-American, childless woman it's like finding out about aliens, so different is this way of life. But the letters are so well written it really allows you to share their lives; enjoy the good times, share the not-so-good times and generally peek through their windows. I can recommend this book for anyone who enjoys biographies as well as show more home-schoolers -- especially christian ones. show less
