An easy reading account of a man's lifelong connection with crime in New York City during the late 19th century- from a 6 year old pick pocket until becoming an experienced "grafter" as an adult. The work describes life on the streets as well as time incarcerated in Auburn and Sing Sing prisons, including a stint in an insane asylum.
The subject matter was interesting, and the author's writing style is simple and straightforward. Unfortunately, I felt that at times the work had no real theme show more and was simply a recitation of unconnected persons, places and events. show less
