The Mantle Adorned: Imam Būṣīrī's Burda (الكواكب الدرية في مدح خير البرية يعني القصيدة البردة) by Al-Busiri
A superbly produced edition of one of the most popular pieces of devotional poetry in the Islamic world. Each verse of the Burdah is translated on a single page along with a couplet or stanza of poetry (culled from various sources) relating to the verse somehow. The Arabic calligraphy, illumination, and general design evoke a very Ottoman Turkish aesthetic. Kudos to Abdal Hakim Murad (Timothy J Winter) for putting this edition together.
The Mantle Adorned; Imam Busiri’s Burda Arabic - English Author: Imam Busiri Translated By: Abdal Hakim Murad Publishers: The Quilliam Press Lt, UK Hardback, 179 pages, by Al-Busiri
The Mantle Adorned may serve, it is hoped, as an aid to devotion. In the traditional manner, each line, and the nazira lines which follow, should be the subject of an hour’s quite meditation. Blessing the Prophet, and indeed all of the prophets and saints, brings a blessing in to our lives, and stillness to the heart
