Wicked Good Words: From Johnnycakes to Jug Handles, a Roundup of America's Regionalisms by Mim Harrison
Mim Harrison collects a wonderful array of American regional colloquialisms. Luckily, for us, she gives us a history of each entry to help make better sense of some of the more obscure terms. Personal favorites: bingle (Alaskan for relatively worthless money) and "live dictionary" (Old West cowboy slang for a schoolteacher). It's fun and interesting and short. A nice bathroom reader.
I enjoyed learning about these profession specific buzz words. I'll be on the look out for more from Mim.
Interesting, though disjointed.
