A very short book: of the sixty pages twelve are full page sketches or photographs in addition to the many half page illustrations. Several of the photographs are "vertical aerial" views of towns. This is really the barest outline of how towns developed and changed during the time period. The text contains so many "probably", "possibly", "perhaps", "may have been", "appears", "seems likely" or "suggests" (sometimes two or three of these within a single sentence and half a dozen or so in a show more paragraph) that the reader is left to wonder what really did happen.
