Excellent book on the period from Fischer's return to chess and his march to the World Title. 1970-1971. I had forgotten how much he played leading up to the Interzonal at Palma. He was clearly on a mission. Timman gives adequate background information on the events and some interesting anecdotes. The games are well annotated without overwhelming the reader with variations. However, there are a few games where the analysis gets quite deep. For those games, and really for all the games, I show more used ChessBase to play through them. The book includes nice crosstables for the tournaments and matches along with nine pages of photographs of relevant characters. This book, written by an excellent player and author, spotlights a period in Fischer's career, ie. before the Candidates Matches, that doesn't always get a lot of attention. A fun read. show less
