Micheline Calmy-Rey

Micheline Calmy-Rey was born in the canton of Valais, Switzerland. She graduated with a Licence degree in political science from the Graduate Institute of International Studies in Geneva. In 1966, she married André Calmy, with whom she has two children. A member of the Social Democratic Party, she was elected to the nation's Federal Council in 2002. She served as Switzerland's Foreign Minister and Vice President before being elected President in 2007 and again in 2011. She stepped down from that office in December 2011.
