Any parent or caregiver who has tried to get a lively toddler to sleep will appreciate this book.
"Sheep has been playing all day and now he is tired.../... but will sheep sleep?" As anyone can guess, the answer is no! A bedtime drink, evening routines, all are quickly turned into a new game until finally Sheep's exhausted friends dress up in sheep suits and start a countdown. The only question left is, "Will Sheep snore?" and you can guess the answer to that one!
Bright, digital cartoons show show more a creamy sheep with dark brown face and legs, toothy crocodile, smiling ladybug, and other animal friends.
The only drawback to this title is that it's not very sturdy; instead of the usual thick cardboard pages and binding of a board book, the pages are thin, shirt cardboard, the kind that's found in folded dress clothes. The binding, especially the hinge, also seems thin.
Verdict: A fun addition, but add some extra reinforcement and don't expect this one to last too long.

There is nothing better than coming home to a little surprise in your mailbox after a long day of running around. Thanks so much Hilary Leung for sending along an advance copy of Will Ladybug Hug! I have been eagerly anticipating this delightful little book, one because I love the first two books in the series and two because Will Ladybug Hug? Is an incredibly timely and important book for young people.
Will Ladybug Hug? Is a book about consent, about the importance of asking before you give show more hugs or any sort of physical contact and reassuring the reader, it’s okay to say no thanks to a hug. In the fun question and answer style, Hilary Leung creates a super fun little guessing game along with a really necessary message. If we can use some valuable, fun, straightforward resources to help our children understand something like consent, hopefully we are setting them up to be kind and considerate adults. At a time, here in Ontario particularly, when teachings about consent are being set backwards by decades, it is necessary to have books such as Will Ladybug Hug? To help fill the gaps our education system is creating. This lively little story about consent should make its way into all classrooms and homes across North America. It’s another way we can equip our children to understand it’s okay to say no. show less

Giraffe wakes up grumpy. One by one, friends try to cheer him up, but nothing works. Then, when a rainstorm comes and all the friends are sad, Giraffe makes them all laugh by falling (unintentionally) into a mud puddle. The book ends on a question: "How do you cheer up your friends?"
Ladybug loves hugs, but will her friends love hugs as much as she does?
The author uses simple text and simple high contrast illustrations to create an adorable story for even the youngest baby. The reader will learn about different types of hugs and that it is okay if you do not want to hug giving the child and adult a chance to talk about showing love and affection. The large font helps to foster print awareness. The surprise ending also allows for talk about the different ways to say good show more bye and hello. show less
