I loved this book. So, so much. For me, it was one of those situations when I look at the clock and it's about 10 pm and I say to myself "Okay, I'll read a few chapters. No more than 4". And then read and read and when I look at the clock again I have one of those "oh, crap" moments because it's about 3 am and I have to wake up in about 4 hours and, surprise, I'm way past the first half of the book. Though it might not sound like it, I really love it when a book does that to me, 'cause then show more it means it's that good :D
I liked Vaughn a lot. I have no idea what is it about arrogant, strong heroes, but I just love them. Vaughn is such a strong character. Strong enough that even the mention of his name commands attention. He's had a rough past and at times I just felt the need to get inside the book and give him a hug. A big bear hug. I liked his strength and his dedication towards doing what was right. I also liked how he believed and respected what Mana was doing, her ability to talk with the dead. I think it made him even more perfect for Mana, the fact that he respected it and that he didn't try to make it sound like some hallucination or something like that.
Mana is one cool heroine. Just the fact that she can spirit walk makes her cool. And she's good for Vaughn. She made him a better person and I felt like for the first time Vaughn was trying to be better for someone. I really liked those two together. And I liked their flirting and teasing.
As with A Hint of Frost, I liked the fact that there isn't an abundance of descriptions, because I could use my own imagination to create some of the aspects of the world. I also liked that there's a little mystery surrounding the plague and where it comes from. I'm very curious to see what happens next and about the various new creatures there are in this world. I'm ready for book 3.
So if you haven't yet read the first book of the series, A Hint Of Frost, start now. You won't be disappointed! show less

Review:
I have to start by being honest and say I am not a big fan of urban fantasy, I personally prefer more epic fantasy, Tolkien style of novels. That being said, I absolutely loved Dog with a Bone and finished it in a very short space of time. It’s exciting, it’s funny and the characters are great. It reminds of a mash up between Supernatural and Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instruments. It’s a wonderful story, with everything you could possibly need, kick ass heroine who’s incredibly stubborn and won’t back down no matter the challenge? Check. Loads of different crazy supernatural creatures from Chimera to giant worms? Check. Mystery, intrigue and a whole host of action packed chapters? Check. Need I say more? There’s also loads of witty banter between Thierry and Shaw as well as lots of great secondary characters like Thierry’s Jeremy Renner obsessed best friend Mai, and conclave receptionist Mable, who although we only meet briefly, are fantastic characters that I can’t wait to learn more about in the next book. The book is a relatively short one and it feels like Edwards is just getting started, I think there’s a whole lot more to come and so many different things to explore in this interesting novel.
Not only is the character development great, I already love so many of the characters and I've only read this short novel, the plot is fantastic, with so many twists and turns, you’re always kept guessing - it’s like CSI in the fae world. Dog with a Bone definitely leaves you wanting more, I have so many unanswered questions about Thierry’s history and her mysterious father, I'm just itching to read the sequel.
There is lots of tension and romantic elements to the novel too, plenty of quick one liners and chemistry between Shaw and Thierry adds another dimension to an already fabulous book. This fast-paced high action book will leave you desperate for something more, but not to worry with sequel Heir of the Dog due to be released on January 30th, you won’t have long to wait! show less

Series Info/Source: This is the third, and final, book in the Yard Birds series. I borrowed this on ebook from Kindle Unlimited.
Thoughts: This book did a very good job of wrapping up this series. I would love to have more of these characters, but this was tied up nicely.
Ellie gets a call from the leader of a different coven, some of their members have gone missing and Witchlight wants to reactivate Ellie's coven to help figure out what is happening. Once there, Ellie and her coven realize show more they have been lied to and things are not at all what they seemed.
As with all the books in this series this book was fun, highly entertaining, and humorous. I loved all the family and friends involved. Ellie's husband's soul is now bound to a charm around the neck of a kitten named Scrappy and this was hilarious. Scrappy is a, well, scrappy kitten and causes loads of trouble.
I enjoyed how this took a look at trying to reclaim your glory days and then realizing that maybe they weren't so glorious after all. Maybe the glorious thing is the very thing you have normally, day to day. This is a wonderful message and was a great way to tie up this series.
The world building is light here. I would have liked to learn more about Witchlight and seen Ellie get more resolution around her husband's soul being bound to an object. However, I also really enjoyed how things were wrapped up.
My Summary (4/5): Overall I really enjoyed this series. There is a lot of humor in here and a lot about family and aging. The mystery here is decently done and keeps you guessing. I love that this takes a look at aging and reliving glory days in a way that is heartfelt and honest. I would love to read more adventures about Ellie and her coven, but I do think they deserve the retirement they worked so hard for. This series definitely made me want to check out more of Edwards' series and I plan on doing that in the future. show less

I am like a kid in a lolly shop with these gorgeous covers and quirky titles 😍. I thought I was getting a cosy fantasy but it's actually urban fantasy with shifters, action and magic so still a win. The banter is fantastic and the range of character types, from villain to entrepreneurial little sister, ticks all my boxes for a layered story. I love the combination of the 'finding your place' trope and hints for a future slow burn romance with a gorgeous yet awkward MMC. It's a fairly show more short story at 125 pages but the next two books are out and the fourth in a week or so. This is a fun story tempered with deception and trauma and a brilliant twist . I absolutely loved it and will be back for more! show less
