This is a simple, honest book. I know exactly what Himler means when he says this because I know the pain of losing an animal friend isn't lessened by the fact that she wasn't your only animal friend. This book is beautiful and painful and wonderful and necessary. He didn't say any more than he needed to, and I loved it.
This book has a decidedly urban New York feel but the writing is really cleverly paired with the illustrations. You'd never guess without seeing the illustrations that the girl wasn't on some fantastic journey and it really makes you think twice about how so much of the world is about how we perceive it. I can easily imagine what a small child recognizing this other world in one that you or might think of as a rundown New York neighborhood. I loved this book.
This is a charming wordless book, where the boy is naked and dancing through town enticing other children to join him. Certainly a reflection of toddlers innate desire to take of thier clothes and run around. My daughter now 4 could not get over the "butts" and I could see this spiraling out of control in the classroom as there is already a silly amount of potty and joking body talk going on. I guess I'm at a loss as to how to use this in the classroom, but it is a silly book exploring how show more being naked is enjoyed by children before society decides it is not appropriate for them to do so. show less

This book made me giggle. It's a lighthearted story about a young boy who is naked and dancing through town, gaining the attention of other children, and encouraging them to join him. This is a silly book which somewhat reflects on toddler's active, free personalities, and their comfort in being completely naked. I understand how this could be potentially troublesome to read in a classroom because of children giggling about kids being naked and what not. It's completely innocent, but I can show more see where some parents might find issue. show less
