Review of eBook
Detective Holden Flynn arrives in Greykirk, a city shattered by interplanetary war, to solve a murder. Superintendent Culver exiled him to this planet, declaring it Flynn’s “last chance.”
But since everyone knows exactly who killed Annie Talbot, it should be an easy case for the detective to solve.
Shouldn’t it?
=========
This short story has a noir feel, reminiscent of gritty, hardboiled detective tales. The unfolding story moves along at a brisk pace with the focus on show more the detective’s efforts to close the case.
Since the story takes place on another planet, some sort of world-building would have enhanced the telling of the tale. The mystery surrounding the murder is intriguing; sadly, the unnecessary overuse of a particularly offensive word mars the story and lowers the rating for this book. show less
