I enjoyed A Day in Tuscany! It is, as others have noted, a different type of memoir- taking place over a single day, with many trips down memory lane. It has its share of laugh-out-loud moments (as well as some I wouldn't mind skipping over, e.g. smoking pot etc. and discovering questionable magazines as a boy). Still, that aside, an overall enjoyable read much like I envision a day in Tuscany to be: meandering, thoughtful, with good eats and tasty (non-asparagus) wine.

I'd be curious to go show more back and read his first book; I understand it's a fair bit different in style and tone. show less
An enjoyable look at the "Tuscan Sun"-chasing foreigners from the opposite point of view, in case we wondered how the natives of Tuscany view the phenomenon. Sometimes humourous and occasionally deeply moving.

Antidote to Under The Tuscan Sun type "quaint locals" genre. A tour guide spills the beans on the peccadilloes of his clients.
½
A quick read about life as a (travel) guide in Italy. I enjoyed it more so because, having met the author and going on a short tour with him, I could hear him in my head while reading it.
