Representation and Rebellion: The Rockefeller Plan at the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, 1914-1942 by Jonathan H. Rees
This was a good history/political science/public policy book, looking at the Rockefeller Plan, a scheme in some ways ahead of its time that introduced democratic ideals to the management of the Colorado Fuel and Iron company. This book looks at how employees used, understood, and benefited from the plan, why it was not as successful as its creator, John D. Rockefeller, wanted it to be, and the role Mr. Rockefeller himself played in promoting the plan. While this book felt geared towards show more academics, and would have fit in with the readings I was used to in graduate school, it is still readable. There is a lot of information in each page, and there are not always good summaries and supplemental images to keep the wealth of provided information from becoming overwhelming, but if read slowly this would be a good read for anyone interested in labor rights, the history of 'big industry', and Colorado history. It certainly covers a lot of ground that is not always represented in more general histories, the book is well researched, and it covers an interesting topic. Just don't expect a fast, or easy read from this one. show less
