Excellent Aid to Home Educators and Other Teachers
I think that this book would be a marvelous tool for teachers and home educators. It is loaded with good, easy to implement ideas on how to extend a `read' into more of a lesson.
For example, this book includes ideas on:
Vocabulary building games
Fun phonics lessons
Poems to share
Hands-on math
Science investigations
Interactive displays
Movement games
Art projects
for the following Eric Carle books:
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Pancakes, Pancakes
Have You show more Seen My Cat?
The Mixed-Up Chameleon
The Gouchy Ladybug
The Tiny Seed
The Very Busy Spider
Papa, Please Get The Moon For Me
A House For Hermit Crab
Today Is Monday
The Very Lonely Firefly
The Very Clumsy Click Beetle
Since it is out of print (as soooo many GREAT books seem to be) I won't go on, but only say that you ought to try to track it down if you are interested in ideas of how to enlarge a reading of a book such as the Very Hungry Caterpillar into a lesson on counting, life cycles, change, nature and nutrition. show less

40 Sensational Sight Word Games: Quick & Easy Games and Reproducibles That Reinforce the Top 100 Sight Words That Are Key to Reading Success by Joan Novelli
This book is a good resource for K-2 teachers looking for a way to go beyond sight word flashcards. Most games are most appropriate for a first grade classroom, but could be modified depending on the student's level. Some prep work is needed (coloring, laminating), but worthwhile. Kids definitely enjoy learning new words while playing fun games!
