Archie Hunter

I admit that I didn't recognize the name of Archibald Hunter when I picked up this book, although I certainly have read the name before in other works. Hunter is one of those second tier Victorian generals whose isn't much remembered, unlike Wolseley, Gordon or indeed Kitchener. This is an excellent biography, written by his great-grandnephew who had access to the many letters and other documents from Hunter's life. The book tends to be a bit hagiographic but the author does a good job in show more trying to be fair. There are many useful maps and notes. Highly recommended. show less
