Lynx by Joely Skye
should i have probably started at the beginning of this series? yes. did i start with this one first anyway? yep. have i now conned myself into reading the rest of the series to see what absolute nonsense trey was getting up to amidst other stories? unfortunately for my ever-growing to-read list, yeeup
love non-wolf shifters, so seeing the differences between trey and jonah's experiences was neat. jonah's personal growth was interesting to journey through. would enjoy seeing them in the show more future once they've had a chance to settle down proper and get some solid downtime show less

Poison by Joely Skye
I went on a Joely Skye binge and read 5 or 6 of her books in a row, which is probably more than any author can bear! I loved her spin on werewolves, and was completely in that world and perhaps that is one reason why transitioning to alien cultures was difficult for me, but I never really got into this book at all. The characters felt underwritten, the culture/world building wasn't rich enough. I didn't really understand why the two main characters related to each other as they did; it show more seemed all based on impulse and propinquity. There is such fabulously dense and clever fantasy out there, and this didn't rate higher than ok for me. However, the werewolves are worth visiting, she's written quite a few keepers for me, so this is a pass without prejudice :)
If you want a really excellent book on a simliar there, try Elizabeth Bear's Carnival, that's a master work! show less

I really enjoyed the difference in werewolf society. I loved the somewhat uncommon character names. I was pleasantly surprised by the differences from traditional werewolves.
Lynx by Joely Skye
This is a m/m werewolf romance and part of a series, and as such, well worth reading, but as a stand alone it wouldn't work at all for me and I'd recommend most other Skye books before this one.
Trey is such an enigmatic character in the other books and it can be hard when this person becomes the protagonist. Jo Beverly did it magnificiently with Rothgar in Devilish, but Joely Skye is no Jo Beverley. Trey became more ordinary as we became more intimate with him, and that was actually a bit show more of shame.
I also had problems with the amount of waiting in this book, the lovers were apart for far longer than they were together, and the waiting jarred on me, even if the Lynx could cope with it.
I will keep it, as I am keeping all her books right now, but I don't know how often I would reread it. show less
