A thorough, serious overview that helps readers answer the titular question. Possible pet turtles may be land-dwelling (and need a terrarium) or water-dwelling (and need an aquarium): yellow-bellied slider, red-eared slider, Russian tortoise, African sideneck turtle, Western painted turtle, Greek tortoise. Special lamps are required so turtles get enough heat and light, and water must be changed regularly. Some turtles are herbivores, while others are omnivores. Turtles may have salmonella show more on their shells, so it's very important to wash your hands well after handling them. Start-up costs for a turtle (the animal itself, terrarium/aquarium, etc.) are estimated at $540-580, including an initial vet visit ($120) and the first month of food ($30).

I was considering getting a turtle for the library, and wanted to do my research first....This book was very helpful!

I'm reviewing the Hip-Hop Headliners series for my blog and so I'm reading quite a few of these little books, all of which are written at the early 2nd Grade level.

The ALICIA KEYS book was very, very simple and I wasn't all that impressed. (Although simple and easy can have it's uses.)

This book about USHER though is excellent. And while it has more text, it also has more actual biographical information.

It begins by stating:

Usher is the king of R&B music.
His full name is Usher Raymond IV.
The show more "IV" means "4".

The book then goes on to talk about television and movies that Usher has been in, plus other stars he has known.

The format of the book is full-page color photos on the right hand page, with text on the left.

Nice little biography for younger readers.

This book would be great for Intermediate ages because of the longer text.
This book is provides insight into the life of Alexander Hamilton. From his times as a soldier, to treasury secretary and a founding father.
I would recommend this book be used in the classroom when learning about the Constitutional period and Revolutionary war.
This is a great book to use to introduce primary and secondary sources to children. I think that I would use this for the grades 4th-6th when they are learning more specific events in history. It tells the story of the Louisiana Purchase by using primary sources such as pictures. Speaks of life before the Louisiana Purchase, the purchase itself, and life after the purchase. It would also be useful to introduce cause and effect because it gives the cause and effect of many of the events show more leading up to and after the purchase. show less
