Dr Rowan Watson is on the staff of the National Art Library in the V&A. He has published studies on illuminated manuscripts and their post-medieval history, as well as on 19th-century publishing and artists' books. The Playfair Hours : a Late Fifteenth Century Illuminated Manuscript from Rouen (V&A, L.475-1918) by Rowan Watson
A Folio Society reproduction, not quite as nicely done as the Braziller series, but nevertheless a welcome addition to any collection of reproductions of illuminated manuscripts. Rather than a manuscript made by a well-known illuminator for a wealthy patron, this was made by an artist unknown to us for an unknown buyer. This book contains not only the art, but a lengthy commentary.
