A surprisingly charming and witty teenage comedy about a girl who accidentally starts a rumour which gradually defines her entire school persona. Stellar performances and surprisingly fun dialogue lifts this well above its already decent premise, especially from Emma Stone as the lead. I especially enjoyed the scenes with her home life, the (clearly earned) implicit trust shown by her adorably quirky parents (played by the always amazing Tucci and Clarkson) was a wonderful breath of fresh show more air compared to the expected moody teenager / exasperated parent scenes such films usually serve up. If the high school comedy genre itself isn't a turn-off for you, you'll probably have a fun hour and a half with this film. show less
C+ (Okay).

Two people that hate each other fake a relationship at a destination wedding.

The story beats aren't right; it feels like it wanders aimlessly. And half the "jokes" are just someone being naked. Still, it came really close to being a good movie. If they'd cast movie stars, it might have worked.

Best friends decide to do sex.

3/4 (Good).

Surprisingly not gross. It's funny and kind of sweet in the same way as Easy A (by the same director). The obligatory Romantic Comedy Forced Conflict is there and annoying, but close to being believable.

A high-schooler encourages false rumors about herself.

A great movie. No, seriously, it's a great movie. It's clever and witty and lots of fun. I laughed harder than I have in a long time. My wife calls it "vigorously funny." (She says she doesn't know what that means, either.)
