Where do I Begin? I absolutely feel in love with this book, the characters, the drama, the setting, everything about it grabbed my attention and kept it until the very last page. Chambers is an amazing writer, i loved her writing style and the characters she created were captivating and relateable.

Although in the beginning of the story I was mildly confused with the overabundance of character introductions, you soon figured out who belonged where and and I don't believe the story would have show more been what it was if even one of the many characters were missing. They all created another layer of dimension and made the story as enjoyable as it was.

The many suprises throughout the book got me, I could not put the book down as something was always about to happen with the lives of one of the characters and kind of read like a soap opera in regards to switching scences between two characters right when something is about to get really good, which obviously left you flipping through the pages as quickly as possible.

If you haven't read this book, you must! it's a book you can read time and time again, and I don't think I would ever get sick of you. I loved it from start to finish, even with the ending (which I guessed correctly)!!

"The cemetery was deserted. Oblivious to the December chill seeping through her jacket, the woman sat at the graveside and watched the sky darken over London."
This first sentence in the prologue certainly had me hooked and I knew I had to find out who this woman was.
Violet, who wants to lay the past to rest after 12 years, asks her sister, Olivia to help her get all the family together. They had been present years ago at a gathering and have not been together since. Olivia is quite show more reluctant to rehash the bad memories as is the rest of the family but they do decide to go to the gathering held at Olivia and Joel's house. The Cameron brothers have always been close until a horrible tragedy and misunderstandings split them apart. The youngest of Joel and Olivia's children has repressed memories of the event that keeps coming back to her in dreams. No one will talk about what happened to her Uncle Scott and now that she is 17 she has questions she needs answers to. Will the family be able to come to terms with the past and move on? All I can say is this book is remarkable in that it lays the lives and emotions of a dysfunctional family out there for all to see. I think the author did a wonderful job telling this story with compassion and honesty. A riveting novel that will have you turning the pages just to see what happens next. I loved it and highly recommend it. show less
Imagine it. You have won a two week getaway at a peaceful paradise in Cornwall. The beauty of nature surrounds you and serenity is there for the taking. This is where the tale unfolds in Jessica Chambers' debut novel "Voices on the Waves".

An unlikely group of people are brought together for this holiday at a remote farmhouse. Little do they know that their "lucky" win was not so random. Although they all come from very different backgrounds and from different professions, in some ways, they show more are very much the same. As the story unfolds, it becomes evident that these men and women all seem to be running from a past and searching for a promising future.

This is a novel deeply embedded in its characters. Secrets are revealed, friendships are made and true love sings. At one point, I found myself cheering for a young women, on the brink of finding real love with an honest man; and in another moment, I was weeping for an Irishman lost in his grief. There is a free-flowing, calm style to this author's writing. I truly enjoyed the intertwined stories of each and every character and the ending was truly bitter-sweet. This book is a great beginning to a very promising writing career.

This is also on my blog, Clover Hill Book Reviews

The cover on this is very tranquil and inviting, and is a fabulous reflection of the book. Warm, peaceful and completely inviting, this book reeled me in and had me fascinated from start to finish. As a reader the warmth within the pages invites you to delve in and read more, if you enjoy people watching, then you really should read this!

All the characters are unique, with their own stories to tell, I could give you a really good in depth peek show more into each and every character in the book, I've come to know them well and have empathy with all of them through the compassionate, believable storyline. I don't want to ruin the characters or the plot in any way, so I'll let you know that my favorite character is the very perceptive Karenza, whose no nonsense approach and bold behavior was enjoyable and refreshing.

Voices on the Waves has a lot within it's pages, it's so detailed and well thought out. Every character comes to life and they reveal their own lives as the story unwinds. It's really compassionate, and tinged with tangible regret and longing which is touchingly real, as it touches on a lot of subjects...illness, grief, character traits, and a full spectrum of experiences to get your teeth into. The thing I come away most with from this book is the empathy with each and every one of the characters. A thoroughly enjoyable and inspiring read, which is well researched, and a book I could happily read again.
