Twenty one women and their doctor share their experience of birth. This book is a collection of experiences of Dr David Miller a GP who became involved (reluctantly at first!) with home births in northern New South Wales. This selection of births covers a wide range of situations: the simple, uncomplicated birth, the breech birth, the water birth and the complications which require transfer to hospital. Also, many of the common post-natal problems are discussed, including breastfeeding show more difficulties and exhaustion.
Many of the accounts are uplifting, some are dramatic and others depict sad or tragic outcomes.
Overall, this book provides a first hand fascinating insight into the birthing process, with a range of accounts (from the women and the midwives who work alongside Dr Miller) that are representative of the contemporary home birth experience.
