For the centenary of Australia's federation in 2001 a biography of each Australian Prime Minister was republished, this book was part of that series. It does it's basic job of detailing his background, how he got into politics and what kept him there. But it is also for much of the book a joint biography of Lyons and his wife Enid. She became the first female Minister so she has an important place in Australia's political life, here her story ends with his death. There are issues I would show more have liked more detail on, his pacifist attitude, while mentioned however it was glossed over. As he was Australia's Prime Minister in the 1930's, a lot more detail would have been good. What I did like was that his marriage and family were not neglected, although that story was often told from Enid's perspective and not Joe's. show less
