The story of three Irish women, Lola in her fifties, Rose in her thirties and Rose's daughter Lyndsey who's eleven and the changes in their lives caused by breast cancer. It may not sound it, but it's very funny! I particularly loved Lyndsey's entirely credible self-involvement throughout the illness of her mother, written with great affection and a clear knowledge of girls of that age.
The play debuted in The Project Theatre, Dublin in October 2007 and there was a good deal of editing show more between the published draft and the final performance text, all to the good I feel. When I read it after seeing the performance (the script was the programme, very clever) I felt I got bonus background knowledge but nothing that changed my perception of events in the drama.
It made me laugh uproariously and cry until tears splashed my skirt and it said all the things that needed to be said about the daily grind of living with cancer in the family. Excellent stuff. show less
