David Smith’s book “Water Cycle” wins my approval as a text book to be studied by young teenagers in order to gain a foundation in hydrology. This model book has a methodically planned content, where the concepts gradually get more intricate. He also tends to correlate human actions with water cycles of our earth, indirectly also providing some knowledge about eco-friendliness. The illustrations are diverse, ranging from flowcharts to pictures with block texts which are highly show more preferred by beginners or children for swift learning. Another interesting aspect of Smith’s writing is the inclusion of the topic of living micro-organisms in water and their actions. So, in a way, he stretches beyond the mantle of just a geographical “Water Cycle” read to a well-rounded discussion of life in water.

He also describes easy experiments that could help understand the concepts and be undertaken in a classroom environment and for children’s benefit. To conclude, it is a well-written, detailed, interesting and organised book. It should be featured in the curriculum
