The Bedford Anthology of World Literature Book 6: The Twentieth Century, 1900-The Present by Paul Davis
Not my first choice for world literature. The organization is thematic, and seems to flatten the selections to a single idea. Because the organization is by ideology, selections may more obviously reflect the biases of the editors, rather than the quality of work. This is a placeholder book. It has selections I might not have otherwise considered, but it is not likely to endure past the glue binding it.
A very good overview of how A Christmas Carol became part of our culture.
This book is a great collection of short stories and essays pertaining to said stories. I have found myself reading stories from it outside of the classroom and enjoying them.

I recommend this book for anyone who likes to read short stories and reaction essays by some notable persons. A personal favorite of mine is Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, and his essay commenting on the racism in Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness.
