This reference book is essential for school and public librarians building and maintaining a manga collection. There are summaries of over 900 manga series, along with age range recommendations, content advisories (very important for school libraries) and background on the history of manga. This book is highly recommended for library professionals and more-than-casual manga fans.
This was a very helpful book for a newbie to managa. It's a little dated as it's from 2007 or so, but it still has a description and rating for a lot of Japanese manga which is helpful. There are many sections that go into detail about themes, types of manga, manga history, etc. I read through those and then some of the descriptions of the popular manga listed.

Recommended to get started in manga.
Very good resource, even if a little outdated these days. Great way to discover series from the past and what publisher printed them.
Thompson's intricate artwork make a fascinating accompaniment to this otherwise average tale of horror.
