This is an excellent guidebook. It might even be too much for those who, like me, are first-timers to this fabled peninsula. I found it helpful to acquaint myself with how the book is organized. Each town has its own chapter, running from west to east, then up along the forearm that fronts the Atlantic, and then to the fist of Provincetown. Two final chapters cover Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. The structure of each chapter is the same, covering getting there, things to do, lodging, show more eating (subdivided into formal and less-so), and shopping. There’s an emphasis on green spaces and areas suitable for hiking.
We used the 12th edition, published in 2022, the first to add Katy Ward as a co-author. Their restaurant recommendations, for instance, did not disappoint.
We found two minor mistakes, which is not bad for nearly five hundred densely packed pages. I’m sure the authors would be happy to hear about them, for it’s clear they strive to provide a reliable guide. show less

It's taken me some time to finish this, primarily because it's more of a reference book and I've only tended to read it before a trip to Boston. Hopefully now that I've gone through the whole thing, I can go and see all the things I've missed on my previous trips with not having got that far in the book! It seems to be a very comprehensive guide book and covers quite a lot of Boston and the surrounding area. I'll have to wait and see how good it actually is when I visit some of the places show more I've marked off! show less
