Explaining tai chi chuan is a difficult task because it is a different experience for each student. We say it is a system of internal exercise used for energetic development, health, art, and/or self defense. These terms can all be mutually inclusive. Health can be experienced on the phsycial, emotional, and spiritual levels as can energetic development, art, and self defense. The individual student defines tai chi chuan subjectively by his or her own personal involvement.
The benefits of show more training are limited only by the potential of the student. Most tai chi systems are the end result of many hundreds of years of development by great thinkers, sages, and other men of vision. The exercises are time tested methods of awakening, strengthening, and improving the flow of vital energy in the body. Training can develop patience self-control and discipline. These qualities in turn can provide for good health on all levels; a healthy body, a peaceful yet vitally alive mind, an integrated emotional life, and a blossoming spirit.
All this and more is the inherent potential of training tai chi chuan, but this potential must be watered by individual effort to bring forth a new richness in each students' life.
