Despite some weird inaccuracies (Marvin's final album was famously a break from Motown, f aor example), and a tremendous amount of redundancy (who doesn't like the Beatles and Muddy Waters?), this is a diverse group of musicians discussing favorites and influences. A great way to discover some music.

A great idea--ask some of the most interesting musicians out there, in a wide range of genres, what artists and recordings they would recommend as "must hears." With some of the more generous and cooperative artists, it works great--artists give us new insights into old favorites and a few new intriguing new possibles to track down. But too many of the interviewees obviously spend very little time on this--reeling off lists of artists with no further detail--no particular recordings, no whys show more or wherefores--leaving the editors to recommend the very same recordings that are already recommended in a dozen or more critics' guides. But definitely worth looking at for the folks who did spend time on the project. show less
