This series is designed for the young reader who enjoys lots of candid pictures of a particular breed with a fair amount of written information thrown in. While not an in-depth pet care book, each title does a nice job of encouraging potential dog owners to consider things like the breed's temperament, the family living space where the dog will be a new member, and the amount of exercise and other care needed. The "Fast Facts" inserts on every page are a little distracting, show more especially since the "fact" given doesn't always correspond with the picture or the rest of the text on that page, but the "pop" factor is certainly high and readers will be engaged throughout. Each title includes an index and glossary; sadly, no further reading suggestions or websites are given.

I really liked this book because of the interesting pictures and interesting facts. I rated this book a 3/5 due to the interesting information, but lack of sufficient science information. This will be a great book for short lessons in the classroom.

This book takes you through the history and culture of the Mayan lifestyle. It touches briefly on science and technology of the ancient Mayan’s; however, the brief information included is very useful. Students can briefly learn how the Maya culture contributed to astrology and their obsession of time. I rate this book a 2 out of 5 because it only touches on how the Mayan’s contributed to science.

This book is for dog lovers. It has plenty of pictures and information about the Dachshund. This book is perfect for a child who really loves this kind of unique dog. This book is definitely a page turner for the young, curious mind. This book comes highly recommendable for the younger audience.

Classroom extension:

Children can research their favorite animal finding out what information is important to the owner about that breed.
