Review: Daddy by Obi Emmanuel Jr.

This story is short and sweet. It’s about a father, after the birth of his daughter, she was grasping his little finger and he told her he would always be there to protect her.

He and his partner Greg were corrupt policemen and best friends until he got married and started a family. Plus, Greg ended up getting hurt in the field of work and was dropped from the police department.

It’s strange the author never gave his name and just kept calling him Daddy. show more So Daddy wanted to make his marriage work and clean up his act after the birth of his daughter. She meant everything to him and he asked his partner to be the babies Godfather. After a while he and his friend more or less went their own ways with little communication between them.

Well his marriage didn’t work out and his daughter spent a lot of time with him and one day, all of a sudden he realized his daughter was not a baby anymore; she was now fifteen going on twenty. They conflicted off and on and then one night she snuck out of the house during the night to meet up with her boyfriend Starky. Her father seen her leave and decided to wait up for her in her bedroom holding her favorite stuffy and feel asleep. When he woke it was nine thirty the next morning and he searched the house and his daughter didn’t come home. He calls friends of hers and still couldn’t find her. He checked through his channels at work where this guy lived and he was out the door. His adrenaline was running high and everyone knew he was a hothead so nobody got in his way. The author created his character as some kind of Ninja warrior or Rocky the fighter.

Then the reader goes through some fighting scenes and found out his daughter was really kidnapped and the final fight was with his ex-partner who wasn’t the man Daddy thought he was. As a short story it ended with his daughter looking down at him, her hand dropped down and he held onto her finger….saying, “I told you I would protect you”…..

It was a journey of reversing roles and showing the love between the two. Only fifty-four pages but it was fair…and I did manage to put together a review.

My only complaint is that I wish it was longer.
