Poignant, yet drily humorous (Peter Mayle's voice) biographical sketches of a dozen extinct species, accompanied by artist's color portraits of what the animals may have looked like.

Good ceramic history book, though he really should have checked his facts clearly when regarding Winchcombe Pottery and Sidney Tustin. The only bloomer I could find. Over all a good book with lovely clear photography.

Shawn Rice's art is reminiscent of a old postage stamp or the illustrations of myths and fables. DEMONSTRATES ARTISTIC CREATIVITY IN THE ILLUSTRATION AND DISCUSSION OF THE EXTINCT ANIMALS AND THEIR HABITATS.
