I get the sentiment behind this but the analysis is dull, the oral history is basically MCs saying vague things, and the actual poetry of hip hop is ignored
The structure of the book is a short explanation of a term or idea followed by quotes that generalize that term or idea. While it might be interesting to read the insights of some of the artists, the presentation makes it repetitive and choppy. I would still recommend the book for people who enjoy rap and have not yet had an introduction to any of the basics of poetry. Bear in mind that this is an outline of basic topics and only of interest if you want to read quotes from rap artists.
