Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence: An Arcane History of the Oxford Translators’ Revolution―An Historic Fantasy of Dark Academia by R. F. Kuang
Rich man saves Chosen child from being ethnic and poor and takes them to Magic London to fulfill their destiny. Yawn.
Amazing history from someone was part of such a small but influential cultural movement. Honest, respectful, and blunt. Warts and all.
A Gentle Madness: Bibliophiles, Bibliomanes, and the Eternal Passion for Books by Nicholas A. Basbanes
This isn't about books, it's about rich people buying shit. I made it maybe half way thru.
At first it was fine, young urchin tries to befriend a dishonored knight. But then the POV shifts to cookie cutter evil villain and I just couldn't care anymore
Presumably a student of the Farrars, the author states that the moon has 3 faces, ignoring the New, so that the Maiden, Mother, Crone nonsense fits.
I get the sentiment behind this but the analysis is dull, the oral history is basically MCs saying vague things, and the actual poetry of hip hop is ignored
A touching tribute to a genius. Brought me to tears.
No Bad Parts: Healing Trauma and Restoring Wholeness with the Internal Family Systems Model by Richard Schwartz Ph.D.
I don't understand how such a badly written book became such a phenomenon. Granted I am finding actual IFS work useful but I found this book unreadable
“People. Are. Vegetarians,” he yelled through gritted teeth. Every word punctuating a strike to the knee. “Vegetables. Aren’t. People-tarians!”
If that sentence is funny, this book is for you. If the sentence does nothing for you and you enjoy LitRPG even when it's not Dungeon Crawler Carl, definitely check this book out. No shade!
This book is not for me.

This book is not for me.
I've enjoyed watching interviews with this author and was looking forward to cracking this open. I had to quit after a few chapters. Full of facts and ideas, but so poorly edited. Every sentence felt like it should have been broken down into two to three separate ones.
The first Zelazny book I ever read, randomly picked out of box of paperbacks with their covers torn off. I was riveted. Changed not my reading habits but my magickal philosophy
A perfectly fine book but I am bored by most military fiction. I really don't need to read paragraph after paragraph describing how your guns work
Disjointed. Then the author started leaning into beating and torturing a woman. I quit
I feel that it could have used some more editing but I was riveted. The Epilogue was perfect.
Back in high school, I'm pretty sure I read through this whole series. I tried again, and I can't get past the rape scene. I hear that Donanldson matured as a writer, but I have no interest in working to find out.
A childhood biography that just happens to be set against the backdrop of the international Osho cult
Quit. Perfectly fine but I could not remain interested.
great photos and illustrations
not a bad book but a wacky subject
