The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire. One Volume Abridged Edition By D. M. Low. by Edward Gibbon
The abridged version, edited by D. M. Low. Apparently the real thing is six volumes. I started to read this, certainly not for entertainment, but hoping to learn some history, I guess. This is not the book. It's a long-winded, disorganized, meandering discussion of various attributes of the Roman Empire. Every sentence is needlessly convoluted, which combined with the author's obvious assumption of an advanced knowledge of Roman history and literature (so maybe I'm just not the intended show more audience?) makes this book impossible to read, and the attempt was a complete waste of time. show less
