1154 Goethe: His Life and Times, by Richard Friedenthal (read 2 Mar 1972) This is an excellent biography, though written in the present tense. Goethe was born 8 Aug 1749, in Frankfurt, and died 22 Mar 1832 in Weimar. Arnold began his great poem on Wordsworth: "Goethe in Weimar sleeps..." and in the weeks I've been reading this book the line has been much in my head.
