Habeas Corpus by Rebecca Zanetti
The Anna Alberti Files series #6. Contemporary romance, romantic suspense. Best read in series order for character development and continuity, but can be read as a stand-alone.
It’s close to Valentine’s Day in Timber City, Idaho and Nick is buying a ring, planning to propose to Tessa. While he and Anna are in the jewelry store, a trio of robbers dressed as Cupids, with masks and bows and arrows, rob the store. When the robbers subsequently hit a different show more location, Anna investigates the Cupids with the help of elderly relatives.
Meanwhile, Nick is being interviewed as the prime suspect, by Detective Pierce about a murder back when Nick was still a teenager. Aiden doesn’t want Anna putting herself in danger but she can’t help getting involved.
It’s a mess of Cupids, murder, and an Interupted proposal this February in Idaho with Anna in the middle of it all.
Engaging, amusing, and with a smidge of suspense, this book will have you trying to read it in one sitting. Anna is just a little bit klutzy and her actions almost always end with her covered in paint, dirt, blood or other objectionable stuff. It makes Aiden crazy but the rest of us find Anna often laugh-out-loud delightful. show less

Introduction
Winter Igniting is such a action packed romance and I absolutely loved everything about it. There was something so endearing about this one. Rebecca Zanetti really upped her game on this one or atleast for me it felt that way. There was something so different about this one that I didn't expect. But it worked in so many ways. I loved the opposite attract dynamic that this author normally implements. It was show more so charming the way that these two banter and interact while also pursuing a mystery involving the church on the base and also revealed some answers we have been waiting for in a few books, so if you are a fan of this series, this addition will be such a great installment that will entertain all the way for you.
My Outlook
Winter Igniting is such an endearing story that I fell so hard for. The hero is such a playful alpha male. I honestly didn't see that coming. And then our heroine is damaged, from losing her husband and her daughter to Scorpius, and is more reserved and especially shy around men. She only had one boyfriend who was her husband. She is not experienced but there is an instant chemistry between them as they start to work undercover together. And despite what Jax tries to enforce on them, they are determined to fight for each other and the safety of their people.
Winter Igniting was such a delicious read. It had so MUCH sizzling chemistry that is typical with reading a Rebecca Zanetti. I couldn't put this one down, there was such an addicting personality to the way this story evolved and I was so charmed by their relationship. And all the fun bantering in this book was so so delightful. There is such balance that Rebecca Zanetti brings to the level of intensity that is delivered in these books here.
Overall View
Winter Igniting is such a sexy, angsty yet fun filled read that wildly entertains from beginning to end! If you are a fan of Zanetti or Dystopian romance, this needs to be a must read!

Alpha’s Promise by Rebecca Zanetti
Dark Protectors #10
What does it say about me that I find myself more invested in fictional paranormal characters and the series they populate than in fictional human characters that have what some might believe “more real” plots in the books they exist in? I mean...I stopped reading another book that didn’t “click” with me at all then picked up this book and could not put it down! I get the protectors and the women they fall for and can’t wait show more to read the next book when it comes out...that’s me...eagerly awaiting Dark Protectors book eleven...oh yeah!
In this book Ivar has been back for three months and has been mending after finally getting out of an existence that was one torturous situation after another. He was helping to balance a situation that so far has kept evil Kurjan Ulric captive in a bubble world. He had to leave Quade, another protector, behind and vowed he would return to save him or take his place. To make this happen he needs a physicist that will be able to come up with a mathematical solution that will allow him to save Quade but keep Ulric in prison. When he meets up with Promise, a physicist, he realizes he needs to protect her as a few other physicists have already met an untimely painful end. Getting her on board is not easy but eventually does happen.
This story had me from t he very beginning. The meet-cute was...intriguing. I absolutely adored Promise’s logical take on life and her ability to be forthright in stating what she was thinking, desired and was willing to do. Ivar was definitely not human but on board with and understood just what Promise was talking about most of the time. Their relationship was HOT and interesting and perfect in so many ways. In the mix were other characters that are keeping the long-range plot in motion. The Kurjans and Cysts and their evilness are shown again, Quade was visited, Haven Daly is brought in and my gut feeling is that she will be instrumental in getting Quade out of his unbearable situation, the keys are mentioned, the role of the lock (still a child) and her friends was again mentioned and the question of how the four will eventually be part of the solution...it is just a finely tuned wonderful epic journey of a series that has this one book in it that made me very happy from beginning to end. That said...when is book eleven due?
Thank you to NetGalley and Kengington Lyrical Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.

This is just awful. Poor characterization, poor writing, sexist tripe. All of the above are exemplfied with lines like, "But he liked his little mate; he'd like her even more if she allowed herself to love him. She was a female, she was a mate. Love was her calling." (p.87)
Awful plotting and highly unoriginal world building, with a lot of pseudo-science that makes it worse. "Some chromosomes are more powerful than others, and apparently the twenty-seventh is a doosie." (p.178) Did I mention show more the crappy editing that wouldn't catch "doosie" when they apparently mean "doozy" (var. doozie)?
Here's another one: "Her concern for Emma created deep holes of acid in her stomach..." (p.208) Okay, "concern" is a fairly mild emotion, and I would expect to find it associated with, say, mild lines of worry, not "deep holes of acid". And what exactly *are* "deep holes of acid"? Are they pits full of acid? Are they holes in her stomach lining made by acid -- i.e., ulcers? Holes "of" acid? Argh.
Plotholes abound. Why, for example, do the shifters and vampires have superfast healing abilities, unless it's a female shifter -- a "little lioness" -- who has to be hospitalized every time she is (very easily) injured? Gagh, again.
I have rarely rolled my eyes so much at a single book. This is the sort of book that makes me afraid to write lest I turn out something like this. show less
