The Hip Girl's Guide to Homemaking: Decorating, Dining, and the Gratifying Pleasures of Self-Sufficiency--on a Budget! by Kate Payne
Really cute book that covers a lot of the basics. I wish I had this book when I left for college! Great for folks who rent, and are therefore limited in the type of customizing they can do. A great overview of mindful home-keeping with links and resources fir further exploration.
The Hip Girl's Guide to Homemaking: Decorating, Dining, and the Gratifying Pleasures of Self-Sufficiency--on a Budget! by Kate Payne

The Hip Girl's Guide to Homemaking: Decorating, Dining, and the Gratifying Pleasures of Self-Sufficiency-on a Budget! by Kate Payne
By no means an exhaustive guide of how to do everything, but this would be a good start for someone who is living on her own for the first time (in an apartment or house). Topics include: DIY decorating, cleaning, laundry, gardening, party hosting.
