In this short and easy-to-read book, Dr. John Bergsma presents the Book of Psalms as not just a random collection of religious poetry, but rather a book with a structure that outlines the major milestones in salvation history. He also identifies five psalms from each section of the larger book that are important to know, and explains why they are important. Especially useful are the tips for daily reading/praying the psalms. A great introduction—and not just for Catholics.
Bergsma and Pitre root out the bogus theories of Julius Wellhausen; Documentary hypothesis. If you are attached to the Documentary hypothesis, you should read this book! If you want to know how the Old Testament ushers in the New Covenant, you should read this book. If you want to know what the OT has to do with Catholic Liturgy.... If you are curious about the seeming contradictions of God is Love and Mercy in the OT, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!
Accessible to nonexperts, the thorough and up-to-date introduction to the Old Testament can serve as an ideal textbook for courses in biblical studies. It is a valuable reseource for seminarians, priests, Scripture scholars, theologians, and catechists, as well as anyone seeking a deeper understanding of the Bible.
Easy to read and understand. Follows the theme of the Kingdom of God through the New Testament.
