- Short biography
- Charles Spain Verral wrote the first of the 6 Brains Benton books under his own name. After that, it seems unclear if he is the author. The subsequent books are under the George Wyatt name and there seems to be no agreement amongst sources: either he wrote the first one and then the later ones were under a house pseudonym for Golden Press, he wrote all of them but switched to a pseudonym, or he was going to turn it over to other authors but was unhappy with the manuscripts and rewrote them before publication. All three versions of the history exist.

Was not as intriguing as the first two books in the Brains Benton series. Ergo, it took longer to get through the book. It only became more interesting about halfway thru this read.
An enjoyable read once it got going a few chapters in. Brains Benton and his pal Carson help a German professor/animal trainer retrieve money that has been dropped in Lake Carmine. But two villains are after the money too and harass the boys and the professor at every turn.
A lighter version of the Three Investigators. No real danger at any point in the story.
