The story of Jesus going to hell after his crucifixion and removing all the early founders of the church to take to heaven. Lucifer is a bit whiny and wimpy, Jesus is almost a total non-presence. The play is just a few long speeches from Lucifer, a showing of the banner of Jesus, and the knocking over of the gates of hell. Lucifer gives up without a whimper; in fact, there is nothing to indicate Jesus harrowed hell except that he said he did. The scene where Solomon is kicked out of hell is show more also quite underwhelming. This is clearly a play written for believers to allow them to charge up their mission a bit, but it seems we do that better nowadays. Any modern hell house can top this for sheer inventiveness and hellishness. Mostly interesting as a curiosity of past theatre. show less
