Ooh, but this was good!
Today is Dana's birthday and she is working alone in her office on Friday night, as she does most weeks.
Laurel is a few months from finishing her veterinary science degree. While studying, she has supplemented her income by working as an exotic dancer in a club. She also occasionally takes gigs as a stripper, always for female clients.
When Laurel surprises Dana in her office, Dana is embarrassed and outraged and calls an immediate halt to Laurel's performance. She then show more insists on escorting her out of the building. The elevator to the lobby barely starts its descent when the power in the building goes out, leaving the women stranded in the elevator until the cleaning staff arrive on Saturday morning.
This was a great read. Dana starts out exhibiting anger and hostility toward Laurel. When it's obvious they are trapped in close quarters for an extended period, they start to talk, and Dana's walls come down. She realises there is more to Laurel than first meets her eye. Talking leads to flirting - Dana has never been intimate with a woman, but she has long fantasised - and so much more, and when the women are eventually freed, they leave the building with plans to go on an actual date the following night.
Thirteen Hours follows them after that first night through the first year of their growing relationship, through lust into respect and admiration and on to love. Laurel and Dana are strong, likeable women whose intimate moments are plentiful, passionate and melt-your-kindle hot. show less

There is no denying this is a bit of naughty erotic fluff. I have a broad reading range, but I was reading with an editor's eye (at least that is my excuse). A PWP story that should not be held too high on the ladder of literary expectation, it is, however, one of the better attempts I have read over the years. Considering the author was only 20 when the book was written, it is well orchestrated (or edited). There were surprisingly less word choice cliches than I was expecting for this type show more of book, although that dreadful term "ministrations" did crop up (yes, I have been guilty of using it myself but have grown out of it). Other reviewers have said that there is not a lot of character development. I disagree, the characters do change through time, but the development is more staged than subtle. The book is not a challenging read at all, but what do you want in a book that is essentially 250 pages of sex? I got through it in about 4 hours. Read this if you enjoy texts about people exploring their fantasies and erotic writing. show less
My first FF book. It's well-written, gentle and sweet, and knowing next to nothing about PTSD I certainly learnt about that. I wasn't wrapped up in the relationship though the way I would like to be when I read romance. I'm not sure that I'll venture into this sub-genre again, but I'm glad I've read this.
Overall I like the story. It might be sacrilegious and might get my lesbian card revoked... but I think there was a bit too much sex? Don't get me wrong there were some REALLY good scenes. But it felt like there was very little else holding them together, I would have liked a little more out of the classroom bonding? I did find Diane a little too selfish at points, but not enough to toss the book. The scenes that actually had Diane in a dominant position though, was actually pretty nice, and show more seemed to make sense with the trauma history. I'd suggest it to others. show less
