Legacy brings us the story of James and Kat, two relatives who are communicating across time and dimension. The premise of the story revolves around the Balancers, who have the role of mediating the supernatural and the natural worlds. It is really a chronology of James life, narrated to Kat through a journal. James is orienting Kat to her new role as a Balancer, due to her untimely death.
Chris Adonn gives us extensive descriptions of the supernatural world and Jame's navigation of it. show more Often, I wished that Kat had a more substantial role in the novel and it appears that in the future she may. Her role as the listener, learner and, finally, unexpected romantic interest, certainly has the basis to grow into a more complex character. There is no harm in having a strong female character.
My only suggestion is that the transitions between James narrations to Kat of events versus his explanations of the characteristics of the Balancers and their environment become more integrated. I found myself interested in James' story but when it would segue into details of Balancers and their abilities, I found that it detracted from his story and my interest would wain.
A good effort and I will look for future works. show less

First of all, let me say this book is very short, and may perhaps be meant as a teaser, which may negate what I am about to say. BUT...I thought it could have been so much better. Adonn's idea isn't all that unique, but could be very fun in a sort of high brow vampire-slayer sort of way. However, he just didn't make me feel it. The characters were undeveloped (see disclaimer) and one character (who Adonn admits is his favorite) is unlikeable. I believe he is supposed to be cocky and charming show more (just my type) but he doesn't quite let us see the charm. Instead, we simply are to assume he's likeable because Adonn keeps telling us so. I find myself curious to see if the next book might be better, but I won't go out of my way to read it. show less
A cracking good read. Loved the light hearted way in which the character of James using the written word and telepathy relays his own history whilst explaining the concept of ‘Balancers’ (protectors of mankind) to Katrina his great great….Grandaughter and newly emerged Balancer . The depth of explanations could have, in lesser hands, been tedious but Chris Adonn made it extremely interesting and writes with natural humour and compassion. This book made me laugh and cry I was so caught show more up with the characters. In essence she made me care and want more. Can’t wait for Book Two. show less

I was fortunate to read The Eyes That See, but not The Legacy. So for me I knew the characters from the first prequel so to speak but not the story from Legacy. At first I was a little confused as I hadn't read the full novel but eventually it became a moot point. The short story here was interesting and with enough intrigue that I will now find the Legacy and read it so I know what the heck I just read! Sounds very interesting and it was enough to whet the appetite of a new reader! However show more if this was to be a teaser to gain more readers less detail is required on some characters so that it's not too overwhelming and the reader becomes disinterested. show less
