- Charles was born on 1st September 1947 at the City of London Maternity Hospital which at that time was occupying part of the London Fever Hospital, Liverpool Road, Islington. He was the son of James William Noad, a plumber and decorator, and Charlotte Emily Noad (formerly Whitmore). They lived at 8 Gibson Gardens, Hackney.
