There is SO much about Texas football that simply can’t be conveyed unless you grew up with it—but Geoff Winningham sure tries, and he and Al Reinert come laudably close to getting it on film and on paper. Winningham’s camera captures everything from the booster club meetings on Monday and Tuesday through the “spirit” signs and posters from hundreds of cheerleaders and pep clubs, parents’ organizations and their fund-raising events, and then The Game, in all its Friday night show more spectacle, with sidetracks into curiosa like the Homecoming Mum (which really deserves an essay of its own), school mascots, and playoffs. Highly recommended as a photographic companion to Buzz Bissinger’s Friday Night Lights. show less
