The Culinary Kid is very hungry, but isn’t in the mood for a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. So she decides to make soup. In the garden, she picks everything she needs for the delicious meal and describes every step to realize the recipe.
The Culinary Kid makes soup is a perfect book for young chefs in training. Vassi Slavova ‘s beautiful and appealing illustrations go with a very interesting text written in rhymes by Amy Dean.
I really love that book : for children that do not always show more know where their food comes from, I found it important that the author decided to begin her story in the garden. The young character happily harvests all the vegetables while describing what she sees and does. It is a very simple story, but really educational.
Children will also surely enjoy doing the recipe with their family : at the end of the book is shared the Culinary Kid’s vegetable rice soup. show less

Author Dean seems to be a proponent of tough love. Tough love is a risky and possibly dangerous tactic when applied to people living with depression. I found many of these meditations...depressing!

Facing Life's Changes
by Amy E. Dean
This wonderful book of "daily meditations for overcoming depression, grief, and the blues," is filled with insightful messages, quotes, and daily spiritual exercises to help us get on with the business of daily living in a world that can be challenging.
I believe that a miracle is getting what you need the most when you need it the most, and I view this book as a total miracle. I found that using it on a daily basis helps to keep me on track, like an apple show more a day, but I can also go to the carefully detailed index in the back to get immediate help on issues in my life. I am putting this spiritual beauty in my daily tool kit. Thank you Amy.
